Thumbs up!"Overall, I found this to be a much more palatable version of the Original, which is just too sweet for me. I would consider purchasing this as it is a fast, easy and less expensive way to enjoy a chai tea latte than hitting the drive-thru of my local coffee shop."

A couple of months ago, I reviewed a Wellness Kit that I received from Oregon Chai. After the review was published, a contact at the company shared with me that they were disappointed that I didn't review and assign a score to the container of Oregon Chai's Original Chai Tea Latte Mix in powdered form that was included in the Wellness Kit. I shared with her that I kind of passed it over because (1) in my opinion, I believe that most people know what Oregon Chai tastes like and (2) it was actually a bit too sweet for my personal tastes. The Oregon Chai representative then offered up a couple of alternatives that are less sweet than their Original Chai Tea Latte Mix. The alternatives were a Sugar-Free Concentrate or this Slightly Sweet Concentrate. Since I have tried the Sugar-Free Concentrate before and didn't care for it, I somewhat excitedly opted for this Slightly Sweet Concentrate.

While I can't say that I can call this the best chai that I have ever had, I can say that this is my favorite offering from Oregon Chai thus far. According to the packaging of the concentrate, this has over 60% less carbs than The Original. The ingredients in it include water, organic evaporated cane juice, organic black tea, organic spices (extracts), organic vanilla (extract), organic honey, citric acid, and natural flavors. To prepare this, you either heat this or pour it over ice and match the amount of concentrate used with an equal part of milk. Usually, when I order a chai tea latte at a coffee place, I ask them to prepare it with soy milk because cow's milk is so naturally sweet. Pair that with sweetness with the sweetness of the full sugar version of Oregon Chai's Original Chai Tea Latte Concentrate and it is just way too sweet for me. However, I found that I actually liked the Slightly Version just fine with cow's milk. The concentrate itself tastes much the same as the Original, but just less sweet. I think the chai formula is the same. It has a mild kick from the ginger and has a dessert-like quality to it. I can't say that it tastes exactly like more authentic chai like you would get if you were at an Indian restaurant, but certainly there is a market for the product and this should be fairly light on the caffeine. I personally would like to see the contributions from the spices kicked up a bit more---especially from cardamom, cinnamon and even the ginger.

Overall, I found this to be a much more palatable version of the Original, which is just too sweet for me. I would consider purchasing this as it is a fast, easy and less expensive way to enjoy a chai tea latte than hitting the drive-thru of my local coffee shop. Further, the concentrate itself has just 8g of carbs in a serving plus whatever the milk product that you add to it has. As someone, who watches her sugar intake somewhat carefully, this is a great option for me. It is still sweet and a little spicy....just not too sweet....kinda like me :) If you like Oregon Chai's Original, then you should definitely check this one out for a less sugary alternative.
