Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot
|"A well-balanced blend of sweet and spicy notes."|
Caramel Chai is the first tea I am sampling from the company known as Karma Blends. Their website is clean and basic, and showcase the artisan and aurvedic wellness teas on which this company is based. The Caramel Chai tea was not posted on the Karma Blends website, but I was provided with a postcard-sized information sheet to provide me with useful information. This blend is a twist on classic chai, with the notable addition of caramel. The description on my info sheet also mentions vanilla, however the ingredients list only includes black tea, spices, and caramel flavor. The loose tea looks very much like regular chai, with pieces of various spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves etc) present among smallish sized black tea leaves. There were also some small pieces of green leaves among the mix, but I am not exactly sure what those were given the vagueness of the ingredients list.
I steeped one teaspoon of leaves in boiling water for three minutes then added a splash of agave nectar and two splashes of milk since, in my opinion, chai must be properly sampled with milk and sweetener. The tea was a rich and creamy treat. The caramel flavor is decidely present and becomes the dominant flavor in this blend, with the spices taking a somewhat distant second place. Unlike other chai blends I have sampled, this offering really does not accentuate strong spicy flavors. If you are looking for intense cinnamon, ginger, clove, and/or cardamom flavors, this shouldn't be the tea you seek out. However, if you are looking for a well-balanced blend of sweet and spicy notes, give this a try. I found this to be an ideal dessert tea and this is one I would definitely drink again.
