Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot

Victoria is an organic tea blend that takes a modern twist on the classic Earl Grey tea. Yes, this tea has bergamot in it, as does any earl Grey tea, but it also includes generous amounts of rose petals and vanilla beans as well. Due to the appearance (large black tea leaves, copious rose petals) and the uplifting aroma (bergamot and roses), the dry blend is a bit like potpourri. American Tea Room recommends using 195-degree water and a 4-minute steep time. Being overly cautious about over-steeping black tea leaves, I chose a more conservative 3-minute infusion. The tea that resulted is a lively take on Earl Grey, which I must admit has never been a favorite of mine. The bergamot flavor is certainly at the forefront on the flavor radar screen, yet rather than being overwhelming and stuffy, it is light and refreshing. The rose petals provide oh-so-gentle floral qualities to the aroma and flavor of this tea, making what would otherwise be an ordinary cup of tea a more sophisticated experience. The vanilla was, to me, the most subdued part of this blend, but perhaps the element that allowed this tea to most stand apart from the typical Earl Grey. The combination of bergamot, rose, and vanilla is a winning combination that any Earl Grey lover will be sure to adore. I personally am not a huge Earl Grey fan, but found myself enjoying this one all the same. While I would be more likely to recommend this one to Earl Grey drinkers, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this blend can appeal to people, like me, who usually avoid bergamot-flavored teas.
