The First Flush Darjeeling Tea from the Singbulli Estate is a newly featured product in the Mark T. Wendell lineup. This tea contains a nice blend of green and brown leaves, with an occasional intermingling of silvery tips. The aroma of the dry leaves is rich and complex- consisting of fruity, smoky, and muscatel notes. Following the Mark T. Wendell guidelines, I brewed one teaspoon of leaves in boiling water for three minutes. As soon as I took my first sip of this tea, I had a better understanding of why Darjeeling is often called the "champagne of teas". The flavor of this tea is so satisfying; this is the kind of tea that one could get excited about drinking. There are so many flavor nuances to enjoy in this cup that I recommended brewing a big pot and savoring it throughout the day. The flavor of this tea is true to the aroma of the dry leaf, with floral, muscatel, and subtler smoky notes leading the way. The tea maintains a nice overall 'green' flavor which just further indicates the freshness and quality of this tea. This is a medium-body tea that has much to offer.
I have sampled many first flush Darjeelings, and this is certainly among my top choices. I drank this tea throughout the day, first sampling it freshly brewed straight out of the teapot, then later sampling some that had cooled to room temperature as an iced tea. Both were delicious in a lip-licking sort of way. This tea isn't necessarily super cheap, but given its fantastic quality and flavor, it is fairly priced. I recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious first flush Darjeeling.
