Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot
|"A brisk brew that is alive with muscatel, fruity (primarily citrus) and green flavors. Think of what you expect from a classic and high quality first flush Darjeeling, and that's pretty much what you get in this cup. "|
This tea comes from the Balasun Tea Estate in India's Darjeeling territory. The tea was carefully packaged in a foil-lined paper envelope to preserve freshness. The tea leaves display an interesting peppering of dark brown, tan, and green colors thorughout and the contents appear to be mostly large-leaf consistency. The dry leaves have an intoxicatingly fresh aroma that includes hints of grassy meadows and citrus. I brewed my sample using 195-degree water and a three-minute infusion. I was impressed with how the leaves seemed to brighten up and become greener during infusion, as most times, I am used to seeing leaves become drab and unexciting after being steeped. The tea is a light tan color. The flavor of this tea is strong and solid. It is a brisk brew that is alive with muscatel, fruity (primarily citrus) and green flavors. Think of what you expect from a classic and high quality first flush Darjeeling, and that's pretty much what you get in this cup. It has a slight bitterness that, although not offensive, is certainly assertive. I found this to be a great representative of a first flush Darjeeling. While not the best Darjeeling I have ever had, it is certainly one that I would recommend freely and can see myself drinking often.
