Thumbs up!"The Ceylon blend used as the base to be very smooth and luxurious, which perfectly complements the citrus flavors. The overall effect is a tea that is crisp and refreshing, whether taken hot or cold. "

Just when I thought it was all but impossible to find a lemon or lime flavored black tea done right, I had the good fortune of sampling Empire Tea Services' Lemon Lime Black Tea. My previous experiences with lemon or lime flavored black tea has been that the tea is often too sour or that the citrus flavoring tastes more like dish detergent or cleaning solution than actual fruit. So given my past lackluster experiences, I approached this tea with my expectations held fairly low. As it turns out, however, this tea proved that it is possible to offer a decent tasting lemon and lime flavored black tea. This blend includes blended Ceylon black tea leaves, lemon myrtle, and lemon and lime flavorings. I do not know if the lemon and lime flavorings are natural or artificial, although I suspect they may not be entirely natural. The aroma of the tea is rather intense, focusing more on lime than lemon, and with a minor dish detergent element that had me worried. Thankfully, however, the flavor of the tea is a bit more subdued and natural than the intensity and nature of the tea's aroma would suggest. This tea has several good things going for it. For starters, I found the Ceylon blend used as the base to be very smooth and luxurious, which perfectly complements the citrus flavors. Without a sturdy base, the citrus flavors could have become acidic and unpleasant, but instead they are held in check and mix with the black tea to give an almost-creamy feel. Next, the lemon myrtle is another positive attribute of this tea, and it gives a unique lemony twist to the flavor. Lastly, the lemon and lime flavors, while perhaps not entirely natural, are well-balanced and assert their presence without becoming sour or obnoxiously strong. The overall effect is a tea that is crisp and refreshing, whether taken hot or cold. Given its assertive flavor profile, I can't say this is a tea I would drink on a daily basis, but as far as lemon and lime flavored black teas go, this is for sure the best one I have sampled. I would recommend this to those that love lemon and lime flavors, as well as to anyone looking for a refreshing iced tea blend.
