|"With the addiction of cream and sugar this tea is rich and creamy and really reminds me of a chewy soft caramel candy"|
My sample was vacuum packed so I didn't feel bad about saving it for just the perfect time. The leaves appear to be the typical black tea leaves used for a blend being a darker espresso color. Where my dry sample really shone was the aroma. It is all about caramel. And a good caramel at that with all the sweetness and just a tad of saltiness to highlight it.
Following the brewing suggestions on the package, and I do want to give ATR kudos on the fact that they always have those printed on the packaging, I used 2 rounded tablespoons of leaves to 5 cups of water. Setting the brew temp at 200 degrees, I let it steep for 5 minutes. It brews up into a beautiful golden brown liquor that has a strong caramel aroma.
I first tried this tea with just a bit of rock sugar. The tea base is smooth and provides a great support for the sweetness of the caramel. I was really wanting a desert tea though so I added some half-n-half and I do have to say that this tea really shines with the addition. Now it is rich and creamy and really reminds me of a chewy soft caramel candy. I am also picking up just a bit of a cocoa flavor also. Not sure where it is coming from but it is a nice counterpoint.
This makes up for a very nice desert tea. Personally I probably wouldn't purchase this tea as I just not that big of a caramel lover. But if you love caramel I would recommend giving this tea a go. My husband who doesn't really care for black tea but loves anything to do with caramel has proclaimed this tea to be first rate.
