|"Kudos to Golden Tips Tea for supporting organic growing methods and creating a Darjeeling with a clean, refreshing taste"|
This Darjeeling from Golden Tips Tea is made using chemical-free organic fertilizers and grown at an elevation of 4,500 feet. The dry leaves themselves are broken and have a reddish hue in comparison to some of their other Darjeeling teas I have in my cupboard. I steep them for three minutes (I never steep my black teas for more than that), curious to see how they stack up against other Darjeelings and organic teas in general.
The aroma from this bright, coppery liquor has some really interesting dessert notes – I’m smelling burnt caramel and vanilla in my sniffing cup. But my sip isn’t rich and full-bodied, it’s really light and clean – something I do expect in organic tea. Although it lacks any real body, it is very balanced, very refreshing and easily drinkable. There’s a subtle maltiness in the taste and even hints of those burnt caramel flavors in the mouth but certainly no bitterness. But it has such a light finish that it doesn’t leave much of an impression either.
Happy to see more tea growers supporting organic farming methods, just wish these produced a bit more flavor!
