Continuing my trend of sampling teas from new-to-me online companies, this morning I indulged in a cup of Chocolate Rooibos from the Tea District. Despite its name, this tea does contain black tea as well as rooibos leaves. It also consists of cacao nibs, coconut, apple, and natural flavors. I can't think of a cacao-flavored tea that I haven't liked, so I was excited to give this blend a try too. I steeped the leaves for five minutes in boiling water. The tea was a dark reddish-brown color (what you might expect from a combination of rooibos and black tea leaves being blended together). This tea is sweet, but not too sweet, and the chocolate flavor is present, but not potent. The coconut and apple are very subtle, probably contributing to the tea's overall sweetness but without being too assertive in their individual flavors, although as a coconut lover, I wouldn't have minded if the coconut flavor was a bit stronger. This is a great tea for someone looking for a blend with a natural yet subdued chocolate flavor that isn't too sweet or pungent. This is a good option for a dessert tea, as well, because it is very good on its own, but also tastes great with the addition of milk and/or sugar. While I enjoyed this tea, a serious chocoholic might find that it isn't chocolately enough for them, but I do think that this tea will have appeal among a wide audience.
