Shaiha’s Teaview Snapshot
"Perfect for quiet moments when you have the time to really sit and commune with the tea."

I really can't think of a better thing to do after a hectic day at work then to come home to a quiet house and brew up a pot of good tea. Just so relaxing which I really need after a full day of grumpy customers. I wonder if there is anyway to share this relaxation with my customers. My tea this evening won a gold medal for great taste in 2011. It is a white tea that was harvested in April 2011, in the Fujian Province. According to their website, only the bud and top two leaves are used. I have to admit though that I would be able to tell that in looking at my sample. It is full of broken stems and leaves which range in color from a pale spring green to a medium olive. The aroma however is top drawer with hints of cantaloupe and grapefruit.
I set up my Breville One Touch using 4 rounded tablespoons of leaves, a brew temp of 160 degrees and a steep time of 4 minutes. Once brewed it is pale gold about the color of a good honey mead. And now it had a nutty aroma. Quite the change from the dry leaves.
I can see why this tea has won an award for taste. It has a lighter mouthfeel and is naturally sweet. The flavors are not in your face but are most definitely there. The top note is one of nuts. It's really hard to pick out just which one in particular. The middle note is that of melons. I picked out cantaloupe in the fragrance but the taste is closer to a casaba melon. The aftertaste is slightly tart and tangy like one would get from a ruby red grapefruit.
This really is a delightful white tea. Perfect for quiet moments when you have the time to really sit and commune with the tea. If you enjoy white teas I would definitely give this one a go.
