"A very silky Earl Grey blend with hints of cocoa and a lingering smokiness."

It's one of those days where I don't like to even venture outside unless I absolutely have too. Very windy with a hint of rain that manages to make its way into your bones. Luckily I have some very nice hot teas to warm myself back up with. The tea that I grabbed today is an Earl Grey. Now I don't tend to be an Earl Grey fan. I know that it's hard to believe that there are those of us out there. However I have tried a few from ATR that just blew my socks off so I am willing to keep an open mind. This particular Earl Grey has a very nice organic Yunnan as its base and I was able to pick up hints of tobacco under the bergamot. Now the bergamot aroma is very strong in the dried blend and doesn't have that artificial twinge to it. All of this bodes well to having an enjoyable cup of tea.
Following the instructions that come printed on my sample, I used 2 tablespoons of leaves to 5 cups of water. I set the water temp at 200 degrees and let it steep for 5 minutes. It brews up to a dark brown liquor reminding me of a weak cup of coffee. The aroma of the bergamot has lightened up considerably and I am still catching hints of a rich pipe tobacco.
This tea has what I would almost call a texture and that is a very silky one. The first note that hits the tongue is one of the tartness of the bergamot but underneath that there is a smooth cocoa flavor that really lightens up the tartness. There is a smoky aftertaste that lingers for a short time.
I do have to say that this isn't my favorite Earl Grey blend from ATR probably because it sticks closer to the ideal of this type of tea. I can really see Earl Grey lovers not being able to get enough of this blend however. If you like Earl Grey be sure to pick up a sample of this particular blend and give it a try.
