|"Very smooth with strong cocoa notes and a pear aftertaste. One of the best black teas that I have ever tried."|
Okay rant over. I get the pleasure of trying out a new (at least to me) vendor Butiki teas. They were formed in New Jersey in 2008 and have quite the variety of teas that appear to be reasonably priced with very low shipping charges. My only kibitz is that fact that they don't have free shipping if you spend a certain amount at their site.
The name of the tea seems to fit to a tee. Approximately 40% of the leaves are pure gold with the rest being various colors of brown ranging from light to dark. The aroma reminds me of toasted honey. Since this is a new tea I used the brewing parameters of 195 degrees for the water and a steep time of 3 minutes.
The resulting liquor is a lighter brown tinted with orange. The aroma now has hints of toasted walnuts and cocoa. With my first sip I felt as though I had gone to a happy place. It is fairly smooth and sweet with a medium creamy mouthfeel. The cocoa that comes out to play in the aroma is strongly in place in the taste category. And there is a light lingering aftertaste of pears.
I think that I am in love. This has to be one of the best black teas that I have ever tried. I know that I will be picking up some for myself soon.
