This First Flush Darjeeling really blew me away with qualities of airiness, cleanliness and the the delicious balance of Darjeeling sweet and tart. Most Breakfast style teas are made from Assam, Darjeeling, Kenyan or Ceylon. While this is not classified as a breakfast tea, it certainly would do the trick for me, since it is balanced in all the right places, but smooth to drink alone too. My favourite breakfast teas have always been darjeeling in style, and always pair well with eggs (over easy) and bacon. This tea faced the fearsome breakfast plate and pulled through victorious.

I brewed this darjeeling first flush (first flush being the first time that leaves are harvested from a particular estate- which is of more value than the second flush) at boiling, as all black teas must be brewed at, for three minutes. A medium brown and transparent tea was produced. The leaves from brewing seemed to be a mix of broken and whole (BOP and OP), however, the first cup and the subsequent steeps all maintained a uniform flavour and body, so the taste and aroma of the tea were not greatly affected by the mingling of grades. The flavours are similar to your full bodied breakfast teas, hints of the tasty versions of astringency, luscious hints of marigold and sunflower feeling. All in all I believe that this tea could make me feel like I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.

thanku chelsy for your review of first flush darjeeling tea. first flush is the best of darjeeling tea. this is available during the month of april, and sometimes quite rarely in the last part of march. normally darjeeling tea is famous worldwide for its unique flavour that u can never have from tea produced in any other areas of this world. and the real tea lovers will always favour the first flush of darjeeling tea. but this year (2012) due to shortage of rainfall in the hills in darjeeling the tea producers of darjeeling are very much worried regarding the production of first flush and the quality thereby.
