Joy's Teaspoon was launched in April 2010 and named after the proprietor's mother. Tea began as a hobby for Naomi, and turned into a passion of finding quality teas and sharing them with others. I must say, I find her quite talented, not only in finding and offering quality teas, but also in the unique flavors she pairs together.

I am always excited to receive a new sample from Joy's Teaspoon. Today was no exception. As I unpacked my samples, the Berry Earl Grey was the first one I wanted to try.

It is a lovely dark black china tea, with some small pieces of dried berries. It smells like strawberries. I was so curious what a berry flavored Earl Grey would taste like, so I immediately filled my kettle with fresh cold water and put it on the heat.

I used one teaspoon of tea, with fresh water brought to boil. I steeped it 6 minutes and then tasted it. It was perfect! I was amazed at how smooth the tea was on my tongue. The dominant flavor was the wonderful black tea, followed by berry and then a delicate undertone of bergamot.

This tea took milk very well and added a creaminess that made this the perfect afternoon tea. I also added a very small amount of sugar and found that this brought the berry flavor to the surface.

Now, the website says the flavoring is raspberry with dried raspberries and strawberries. Personally, it tastes and smells a bit more like strawberry to me. However, when I polled others in my house, some felt it was more raspberry and others strawberry. I'm not sure it really matters - whichever berry it is - it's delicious!

I was so thrilled to taste bergamot without that sharp bitterness some Earl Grey teas have. And the berry flavor really does pair well! I never would have thought of mixing these two flavors, and once again, Joy's Teaspoon has come up with a very unique and pleasing tea.

I'm rating this tea very high, because not only have a found a new favorite spring tea (I love to mark the seasons with special teas), I have also found the gift I will be buying my Mom for Mother's Day. She loves strawberries and she loves Earl Grey tea. I'm sure she'll be delighted with this unique gift!
