cantonuellowoolongThis tea is also known as Huang Jin Gui Wu Long, which means Golden Osmanthus. It is a first pick Spring 2011 tea with delicate, tightly scrunched bright gold-green leaves. I steep according to the directions on the website, which surprisingly doesn't recommend gong fu brewing. Instead, I put 2 teaspoons per cup in a pre-heated glass teapot and steep for two minutes at 185°.

The golden liquor gives off a sweet scent with notes of milk and osmanthus. Smooth and easy to drink, it is a relatively simple cup. But with fruity, floral, and milky notes, it isn't boring. The buttery texture and creamy/buttery flavour stand up to the largely floral-tasting tea, and the cup ends with a pleasant floral finish.

The second infusion has a sweeter scent, and more of the creaminess has given way to the osmanthus. I prefer the first steep, but just barely. My third steep is unremarkable, but satisfactory. I won't try for a fourth.

The main things I look for in an everyday tea are it being affordable, easy to drink, relatively easy to make, and delicious. This leaf excels in all four categories. I'm beginning to feel like Canton can do no wrong, and I love that in a tea company.
