I've tasted many Earl Grey teas and many Earl Grey creamy teas. I knew that I enjoy the addition of vanilla to my Earl Grey, and I knew that I almost always love teas from Joys Teaspoon. So of course I was excited to receive a sample of Joys Teaspoon's Earl Grey Creme.

I was not disappointed! This is one of the best cups of Earl Grey Creme I have ever had! It is smooth and creamy with a perfect balance of vanilla and bergamot. The china black tea used as the base has a gentle natural sweetness and is bold without being over powering or bitter.

When I opened my packet, I saw very dark black leaves, sprinkled with blue cornflower petals. The scent hinted that this blend would be well balanced. I could smell the black tea, and the bergamot and the vanilla. All three scents - distinct and balanced. It made my mouth water!

I brewed this tea, one cup at a time. I used a heaping teaspoon in a large mug and steeped it in fresh water brought just to the boil. I used a steep time of 6 min. and I had a nice strong cup of tea with no bitterness.

China black tea takes milk well and has a unique coloring to it that is a bit greener than an Assam or tea from Sri Lanka. I preferred a bit of sugar too because it brings the vanilla to the forefront and tones the bitterness of the bergamot. Unlike some Earl Grey cream teas, this one carries the bergamot flavor well. It is not disguised by the vanilla, but it also doesn't overwhelm the cup of tea.

This is a great cup of tea!
