|"This tea is amazingly flavorful for such a light bodied tea! It is the most flavorful unflavored black tea I've ever tasted!"|
Tea Embassy is new to me. Their website includes a large selection of teas and teaware in the shopping section, an interesting "About Us" section, a blog and a great section to learn about tea! It is a family. It is a family owned business offering over 200 specialty loose leaf teas. When you visit the website, be sure to spend some time, especially in the "About Us" and "Learn about tea" pages. To the left is a navigation list with all kinds of interesting information about the company and about tea.
But on to the specifics of this black tea! Georgian Village Tea is from Nagobilevi, a Georgian village in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains near the Black Sea. What an unusual place for tea! The tea is grown on a high altitude plantation. They say it has a higher tannin content but is lower in caffeine.
The leaves very large and black, and it has this wonderful smell of fresh black tea mingled with peach and apple. It says it can steep for 4-6 minutes in 212 degree water. I steeped it for 6 minutes. Another time I forgot to take it out at 6 minutes and over-steeped it a few minutes. It was still good, though it little more acidic.
I love full bodied black teas, and was a little worried when I saw how light this tea was. But this tea is amazingly flavorful for such a light bodied tea! It is light coppery golden and even handles milk and sugar well. It has an amazing sweetness and tastes very fruity. I taste peaches, apples, honey and maybe a bit of a spring floral flavor. But don't get me wrong... these are just the background notes of a very pure black tea. And yet, it is the most flavorful unflavored black tea I've ever tasted!
As this is my first tea from Tea Embassy, I look forward to trying more of their unique loose leaf teas!
