Flu Fighter is one of several teas in TeaLicious' Wellness Teas, which are special blends that are created for a particular health purpose. As its name suggests, this blend is designed for someone who has the flu. This is an intersting blend of fennel, licorice, calendula, cinnamon, lime blossom, elderflower, and echinacea. Each ingredient serves one of four purposes: easing congestion, lowering fever, boosting immunity, or settling the stomach. Being that this is an herbal blend, I used boiling water to steep one generous teaspoon of the blend for approximately five minutes. The tea is a bold yellow color and has a fairly strong botanical-medicinal smell. The first thing I noticed about this tea is that it is very sweet naturally. Given the ingredients, I wasn't expectig a sweetness to come across as the most noticable flavor, but indeed, the tea does have an undeniable sweet flavor. After adjusting to the sweetness, I focused on the other flavors. Some of the flavors, particularly the fennel, cinnamon, and lime blossom, can be individually discerned if one really tries to tease them apart. However,I found it more enjoyable to just enjoy the synergy of these different ingredients without concentrating too hard on identifying the individual players in the blend. The overall profile is sweet, mildly spicy, and citrusy. The sweetness tones down the harsh flavors that can otherwise be associated with fennel and licorice. I personally love fennel and licorice flavors, but I know that to many people they have off-putting flavors. However, in this case, those that are not huge fans of either or both of those flavors should not be deterred, since neither is particularly strong nor over-powering in this blend.
At the time of reviewing this tea, I, luckily, am not suffering any flu symptoms. Therefore I cannot refute or attest to the flu-fighting properties of this tea. However, I can say that this is a tasty and refreshing herbal blend and I can imagine that if I was feeling a bit under the weather I would find this tea comforting. I can see how it might do a good job at helping to ease congesion.
