My sample was shipped to me in a vacuum sealed container so it is super fresh. It consists of black tea with loads of spices. There was no skimping on the spices as I would estimate that they make up half of the blend itself. According to the website they are masala, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla and cardamom. Now I had never heard of the spice masala so I looked it up and as I thought it is actually a blend of spices. The aroma of the dry blend is primarily cinnamon with a hint of cardamon.
I set it up to brew using 2 tablespoons of the blend to 1200ml of water heated to 210 degrees and I let it steep for 3 minutes. The resulting liquor is a deep golden brown with the aroma of cinnamon, cloves and cardamon. I am not able to pick up any vanilla aroma surprisingly enough as that is one addition that usually comes thru strong in any blend.
I have mainly kicked my habit of adding cream and rock sugar to any black tea with the exception of chai blends. To me any good chai must be able to stand up to those additives. And this one does. It has the perfect spice load and while I am not able to pick them out individually there is a wonderful marriage of them all. The flavor is sweet and spicy all at the same time.
Outside of my favorite Indian restaurant, this has to be the best chai that I have ever enjoyed. I am most definitely going to be picking some up for when the weather cools off. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys a chai tea with a heavier spice load.
