I used a teaspoon of leaf to 8 ounces of water and allowed three minutes for my infusion. I sweetened this cup lightly with liquid stevia. The tea is medium to dark copper in the cup and has a wet, slurpy feeling to the tea. The body is medium, I'd say, and is gently sweet with a wet, full and yes, mango-y sort of fruitiness in the sip.
Cooling really makes the mango flavor come out. The aftertaste, too, is mango-esque. There's a definite heavy fruit flavor, tropical in nature. The aftertaste of the tea itself is light but the mango flavor is persistent and as with the real fruit, I can't quite decide how I feel about it. There's a curious, slightly spoiled taste at the rear of the throat that echoes well how mango can sometimes taste (probably especially as I have only ever eaten mangoes in my own very northern climate which surely must be a different thing than eating a proper mango in its own clime). I have definitely encountered real live mangoes that I love, but I'm not sure about it in my tea. While this mango blend isn't my cup of tea, I have to say in praise that the folks at Tea District do some very good blending. They have a good hand with the flavoring and really avoid the artificial flavors that plague many fruit flavored teas.
I'm a little ambivalent about this particular mango tea. I'm not sure I like the heavy, somewhat overripe and over-lingering fruit flavor. However, I wouldn't let that stop me recommending that mango fans out there try this one. I'm impressed with other fruit flavored blends from Tea District and this one might just not be my particular flavor. Try it if you are adventurous, a mango fan, or someone who likes fruit flavored teas with a natural and authentic flavor to them.
