thepuriTea is, apparently, a mother-son family operation, which warms my heart in its own right. I love to support family businesses too, so chalk one up in the feel-good column. I’m not sure where exactly they are located, but it’s somewhere in the USA, and they take pride in sourcing their teas as directly as possible – as close to the plantation as you can get. Currently they have just over 2 dozen different teas offered in a variety of black, green, oolong and white teas.
Their Golden Yunnan offering is, like other high quality Dian Hongs, perfectly coated with a golden dust. If you are familiar with these types of tea, you are nodding in agreement, possibly uttering “awwww yeaaahhh”. If you are not familiar, you may be scratching your head saying “dusty tea? Who the heck would want that?” but trust me, it is a mark of high quality. Golden Yunnan tea comes from the Yunnan province of China, and is widely renowned as a high-end tea. It’s a bit earthy, a lot umami, woody, sweet, savory, and just downright scrumptious.
Not much can be said about thepuriTea’s offering that hasn’t been said before, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. In fact, it’s one of the finer Dian Hongs to cross my lips in quite some time. In the cup, it brews up to a coppery-gold (as it should), and produces a perfect amount of flavor. It is entirely drinkable, and a beautiful thing.
