Thumbs up!"Made my mouth happy. Taste is floral, somewhat astringent first at mid-tongue, then moving to roof of the mouth, lightly grassy. Rounded, smooth, no rough edges. Overtones of exotic fruit, with a pine after taste."

FTGFOP 1SP = Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe - highest quality grade ("Special" is added to "Finest", with a number 1 at the end to indicate the very finest), often hand processed and produced at only the best plantations, roughly one quarter tips. So I’m expecting some great tea, which has been my experience with samples from Lochan.

Lochan likes the tea – their description: “From Dooteriah Tea Estate in the West Darjeeling Valley, a brisk 1st Flush offering. The leaves have a green black appearance and are uniform in nature. The cup is deep orange and signifies the briskness of this tea. The aroma reminds one instantly of endless tea fields and Darjeeling tea factories.”

The dry leaves were beautiful -- well sorted and withered and carrying a promising floral aroma. I brewed 1 tsp. of leaves at 200 F for 3 minutes and the result made my mouth happy. Taste is floral, somewhat astringent first at mid-tongue, then moving to roof of the mouth, lightly grassy. Rounded, smooth, no rough edges. Overtones of exotic fruit, with a pine after taste. Overall, a delightful first flush.

The Dooteriah and Kalej Valley tea gardens in Darjeeling belong to the Alchemist group of India. These gardens have old traditional china bushes over 120 years old in age. The Darjeeling Dooteriah Estate was established in 1859. The tea garden ranges in height from 3362 to 7000 feet above sea level. Abundant sunshine, gentle mists, crisp winds and fertile soil assist in production of exceptional tasting teas.
