|"One of the best First Flushes that I have had the pleasure of trying. Highly recommended!"|
Comprised of the first tender shoots of the newly grown tea plant, First Flush Darjeeling tea is a seasonal tea offering that is applauded by tea enthusiasts around the world. Our 2012 offering was grown at the Castleton Estate, a famed estate located in Darjeeling’s Kurseong South valley. Planted in 1885 and created from pure China tea bushes, Castleton’s teas have an established reputation as being some of the best in all of Darjeeling. Their teas are most prized for their unique ‘muscatels’, comparable to sweet summer wines, with intense fragrant top notes of musk.
My sample consists of both black and green leaves with a few silver buds. The aroma is musky with hints of tobacco. I set it up to brew using water temp of 190 degrees and a steep time of 3 minutes. The resulting liquor is the color of old gold coins and has a fruity, musky aroma.
This tea has a very crisp brightness that I don't run across very often. I really have to agree with the website about the flavor of this wonderful tea. The muscatel is certainly unique and flat out delicious. Add to that the lingering aftertaste that is both musky and fruity, and you have a real winner on your hands.
This is truly one of the best First Flushes that I have tried and I would love to get my hands on some if there is any left when my tea cabinet looks barer. I suggest not waiting though or you might miss out on a real treat.
