Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot

I am pretty much a sucker for anything that is mint-chocolate flavored, so of course I was more than happy to sample Tea Horse's Chocolate Peppermint. Tea Horse is a UK-based tea company and their Chocolate Peppermit is an original blend that combines Ceylon black tea with cocoa shells and peppermint. This tea was inspired by Queen Elizabeth II's childhood love of chocolate mints, and is a tea that was chosen to celebrate her Jubilee. It appears that the dry blend has an almost even amount (by volume) of black tea leaves, cocoa shells, and mint leaves. The dry blend has an aroma that is more intense on the peppermint than on the chocolate. I brewed this tea using one teaspoon per cup of boiling water, with a three minute infusion time. I found the peppermint flavor to be rather assertive, although not too intense. The chocolate is secondary on the palate, but still certainly present. The black tea base is the least revealed aspect of the cup. I did find the flavor of the undoctored to be very strong, and so on my second brew, I added a splash of milk and a smidge of sugar. I found the tea to be much smoother and more enjoyable, and the addition of just a little milk and sugar made the tea seem like a decadent treat. This is a tasty brew that will satisfy a sweet tooth, but the flavor is not sickeningly sweet and the peppermint does keep the sweetness in check. It has a bit of a hot cocoa feel to it, and who doesn't like hot cocoa? As I sipped this tea, I thought about how perfect this tea would be for sipping around winter holidays, as it does seem to be most appopriate at that time of year. In all, this is clearly a quality blend that was created with lots of care and attention. It delivers what its name promises. I highly recommend this tea.
