This tea is my first exposure to Verdant Tea, but with just this one sample I can tell that this is a tea company that offers high quality products. Their website offers a great variety of information about the company and how they source their tea in small batches from small family growers. My sample of the Early Summer Laoshan Green Tea appears to be very fresh, although it does appear that this tea is not currently available since Verdant offers what has been harvested seasonally. The leaves are rolled and wiry, taking on curly/stringy shapes. They open up to a considerable size during infusion. I used sub-boiling water and brewed the tea for about two minutes. The dry leaves as well as the brewed liquid have a pronounced vegetal quality that bears notes of green beans and spinach. That might not sound entirely enticing, but in all reality, this tea is rather tasty. The vegetal flavor is not too pungent. Sure, the green flavor is distinct, but the overall effect of this tea is still a mild and relaxing cup. The mild green flavor is complemented by an underlying natural sweetness. There is no bitterness to speak of whatsoever. This is a satisfying cup that delivers a solid green tea flavor without any harshness that detracts from the cup. I was able to get a couple of decent infusions from the same leaves. I chilled some of the tea I prepared and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the iced version of this tea. This is an all around delicious green tea and I can't find much to criticize about this offering. I look forward to sampling other teas from this company!
