|"An enjoyable chai made with quality ingredients that will easily stand up to operator error. I do recommend it for delicious cup."|
I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened up my sample package to see all the spices. And I am not talking little bits of spices but huge chunks. Looking at this blend I am reminded of potpourri with the aroma of cardamon and cloves. The ingredients consist of Assam with green cardamon, cassia bark, ginger, orange peel, cloves, and green pepper corns.
I set up my Breville following the suggestions on the packaging of using 205 degree water and a steep time of 3 minutes. I misread the instructions however where it recommended 1 teaspoon of the blend to 200 ml of water and instead used 1 tablespoon. A happy mistake luckily.
The liquor is a rich golden brown with a spicy warming aroma of ginger, cloves and cardamon. I doctored up my mug in the proper chai fashion with rock sugar and half-n-half. I ended up with a delicious chai that was strong enough to not be washed out by my added ingredients. If I would change anything at all about this blend it would be to add a touch more peppercorns and cloves. Now mind you that if I had not made a mistake and used too much of the blend, this tea would be far to weak for my tastes which just goes to show that you can really play around with the proportions of tea to water and come up with your own perfect chai without bitterness.
Another bonus I discovered is that with the whole spices I was able to resteep twice more before the leaves and spices gave out. This was a very pleasant surprise which makes this a rather economical blend.
