The leaves in my sample are long with some reaching over two inches in length and are grayish black in color. They give off the most delightful aroma of orchids and honey. I set up the leaves to brew using 190 degree water and steep time of two minutes. The resulting liquor is golden in color and the aroma is still very sweet with the orchids and honey. It has also picked up a slight nuttiness.
This tea has a heavier mouth feel with a slightly oily texture that coats the tongue and the roof of the mouth. Each sip starts a slightly bitter mineral taste that quickly changes to grainy taste which forms the base of the flavor. The high note is a sweetness from the orchids and a lingering honey aftertaste on the roof of the mouth.
This has to be one of the more enjoyable dancong oolongs that I have tried. It has a nice complexity that gives each sip a slightly different flavor and I was able to get three pots of tasty tea from the one batch of leaves. This is an oolong that would definitely find its way into my cart.
