Thumbs up!"This is a complex cup, it was so clean and creamy you'd think there was milk right in it! Buttery smooth green veggies with a hint of citrus, Top Leaf is one to be commended!"

mellowmonktopleafI have tried this tea a few times, and now finally after probably the fourth time actually writing my review. This tea was pretty unique for me. I have a few teas to try from Mellow Monk and I chose Top Leaf to be my first impression.

I have enjoyed learning about this company, all of their teas are made guricha style, also known as tamaryokucha which means curly green tea. This method is the most popular in Mellow Monk's sourcing region of Kumamoto. All of Mellow Monk's teas are steamed rather than pan fried and are always first flush. Tea is plucked in small batches from family-owned and operated tea estates. This tea alone, Top Leaf, won 1st place in the Steamed Green Teas class at the 2011 North American Tea Championship. Yup, there's even competitions for tea!

I brewed Top Leaf for 2 minutes with steaming water, the liquor was a fun neon green color. This tea had a very strong spinach and vegetal component to. There was also a flavor that reminded me of sencha as well.

This is a complex cup, it was so clean and creamy you'd think there was milk right in it! Buttery smooth green veggies with a hint of citrus, Top Leaf is one to be commended!
