shantipomegrantulsiShanti Tea's pomegranate tulsi is an interesting brew. A little out of the ordinary for me, definitely a summer drink. This herbal tisane combines tulsi, orange peel, hibiscus, elderberries and natural essences. It is also certified organic, something to look for in an herbal tisane, as well as a regular camellia sinensis tea. I've had a few teas with tulsi in it, this is the first to combine tulsi with fruits for me. The tisane itself has a scent of something that reminds me of coconut rum or something, definitely fruity though. I wasn't sure I was going to like it.

I brewed this tisane at 212F for 5 minutes with a little less than a tablespoon for 8 ounces. The aroma is very sweet, reminiscent of berries and pomegranate. It was enjoyable to watch the red color from the hibiscus bleed down into the infusion to create a full merlot-red cup. The first taste that comes is of tart berries and a hint of orange. The tulsi is tasted as an aftertaste almost.

This tea reminds me of Kool-Aid, not the flavor necessarily but it just seems like something that is meant to be brewed strongly and iced as a nice summer refresher that won't dehydrate since it's caffeine free.

If you're looking for something fruity and a juicy pick me up, I'd give this a shot.
