I was blown away by the size of the leaves in my sample. Rather then the tiny leaves that one usually sees with black tea, these leaves were huge. Some of them topped over two inches. The only way to get an accurate measurement with these babies is to use a scale. The dry leaves have a minty, fruity aroma. I set up the leaves to brew using boiling water and a steep time of 3 minutes.
The resulting liquor is a golden brown with a slight malty aroma. This is a stout tea that would hold up to cream and sugar. In fact, I had to add a touch of rock sugar as the tea was a bit harsh for my tastes otherwise. It has a faint malty taste with a lingering dryness.
This tea wouldn't make my top ten list as I do prefer more depth in my black teas however it did make for a great breakfast tea. It does bear a resemblance to Assam and could easily be drank in place of.
