My sample, which arrived in a vacuum packed foil bag, consists of smaller somewhat broken leaves that range in color from a light golden brown all the way up to a dark brown. They have the wonderful aroma of dark baking chocolate. I set the leaves up to brew using 195 degree water and a steep time of 4 minutes. The resulting liquor is a copper color with a sweet fruity aroma.
This tea does have a heavier body then other darjeelings that I have ran across along with a well balanced flavor. So balanced in fact that it is difficult to separate out the flavors though I am able to tease out hints of cocoa and citrus. There is also slightly bitter taste at the end of each sip which grows more pronounced as the cup cools down.
This is not a tea that I would stock for my own personal use as I was just not impressed by the bitterness. It did work well however as something to sip on while I was busy at work.
