|"Wonderful Darjeeling filled with floral notes and malty flavors, even good iced! "|
The leaves are a myriad of colors ranging from light to dark green and a hint of burnt orange that cover downy tips and leaves. The cup is light amber and a floral aroma peeks out on the edge of the cup. I was lucky enough to receive a very generous amount of tea for this review. I’ve been enjoying it almost every day for a week now. My first cup was the most revealing, such a change of pace for my tongue compared to the fruit filled sips I’ve been enjoying my mouth had missed the flowers of spring and the malty-ness of what’s to come.
A tablespoon was used to brew the first cup at 180F for 3 minutes. The taste had a distinct taste, I was unable to decide what to call if for a while but I think I’d like to say plum. There are hints of plum covered by floral overtones followed by a lingering sweetness and a slight dry aftertaste though not as dry as some. The dryness in this tea is not as dramatic as the plum strings along a juicy sweetness to the end.
Day after day I enjoyed this tea a bit more, then I used too little. Today I used only about 2 teaspoons, my cup was still enjoyable, more floral actually but it didn’t seem to be as distinct in flavors compared to using a tablespoon.
One day the break room electrical outlets weren't working so while I enjoyed the tea hot, I also enjoyed it cold. This would make for a great light refreshing iced tea.
Overall, this is probably the best tea I have sampled in a while, it is floral (which I love) it had a distinct malt flavor to it, was pleasantly oxidized closer to a green tea but still carried a body more familiar to an oolong. Thumbs up! Looking forward to my next tea from Happy Earth!
