My package of loose leaf tea was well sealed in an airtight, light blocking bag. When I opened it, the package of dry leaves had me very hopeful. It's a beautiful blend and variety of large leaves. It had a very fresh smell.
I brewed my first pot as I always do with black teas. I warmed the teapot, and brought cold water just to boil. I used 3 large tsp of tea and steeped it for 6 min. The tea was dark and smelled a bit floral. I poured my first cup, added a bit of sugar and milk and sat back an enjoyed my first cup of tea for the day.
It was delicious! I guess I do like some China black teas! Each pot I brewed, and a single cup serving I brewed came out the same. They all took milk well, which is always a plus in my book. I did enjoy some sugar in each cup, though it didn't need it. It had no bitterness. It also had no smokiness.
Some black tea blends, have a strong foreground flavor. Some are malty, some are more fruity. Some are sweet like honey, and some are floral. I think the best breakfast blends, though, have a more pure tea taste without a discernible foreground flavor. This tea fits in that category. It was a full, dark tea, but such a good blend that it didn't have that foreground flavor that catches your attention.
In the Lu Lin description, they say "If you have fuzzy brain syndrome in the morning, a mug of this will sort you out! Trust us; we drink it every day!" That is me! And after a nice cup of this Breakfast Blend No. 1, I am ready to face my day!
