Thumbs up!"This First Flush Risheehat is slightly bitter though the taste of plum was carried throughout each infusion. There were flavors similar to fig and raspberry. As far as texture and finish this tea is on the dry side. "

happyearthrisheedarj13This first flush Spring Darjeeling comes from Happy Earth Tea, a company located out of Rochester, NY that sources tea from all over the world, though mostly India. The leaves are fairly tippy and are gray/green in appearance. They have a characteristic muscatel scent common with most Darjeeling tea, as well as floral.

I infused a heaping teaspoonful in 6 ounces of water, heated to 190 degrees Celsius. After 30 seconds, the cup is pale yellow, the top notes are sweet and floral, followed by a plum aftertaste.

At 2 minutes the cup turned golden yellow and a fruit taste appeared that reminded me of blueberries. The taste of plum was still present. At 3 minutes the cup began to turn amber in color. This First Flush Risheehat is slightly bitter though the taste of plum was carried throughout each infusion. There were flavors similar to fig and raspberry. As far as texture and finish this tea is on the dry side.

I had previously reviewed Happy Earth's Sungma, this cup is very similar and to be honest I have a hard time distinguishing the two having drunk them a few weeks apart. If paired side by side I'm sure they are quite different. As I recall, Sungma First Flush was more floral than this First Flush Risheehat.
