|"With the tea industry expanding, it'd only be natural to introduce the sports world to tea. SPORTea, created by a Colorado herbalist with the goal to provide an easy to consume drink adapted to an active, busy lifestyle features a healthy alternative to sugar laden energy drinks with added nutritional benefits."|
SPORTea comes in tea bags that include a combination of green and black teas, along with ginseng, ginger, mate, Vitamin C, trace minerals, and natural flavors. Unlike it's counterparts it does not include sugar, artificial sweeteners and flavors, sodium nor carbohydrates. Though caffeine is present it is only about two percent which is considered decaf.
Considering this tea is intended to be a sports drink, it was tested using SPORTea's Artic Iced Method. One bag was steeped in cold filtered water overnight in a quart of water.
The following afternoon the tea bag was removed and I gave it a try for the first time. The infusion had a bit of a citrus zing to it with a thicker body than I anticipated. The ginseng and ginger were the predominant flavors. It faintly reminded me of Alka-Seltzer for some reason, most likely due to the citrus flavors. The taste of green and black tea were equally balanced with the herbal profile of this drink.
It seems as this is a great solution for those looking for a natural alternative to the common energy drink. Even if you aren't looking for a post workout drink, it'd be great to have at the office or out and about on a day of shopping to keep you going.
The flavor is great, I'd definitely recommend it as a chilled beverage.
