necessiteassweetalmondHave you ever had a really fresh, raw almond?  If you have, you probably said, "Aha!  That's where they get almond flavor from!"  At least I did.  Before then, I could never figure out why almond flavoring was sweet.  I expected it to taste like roasted almonds, which were salty, and nutty.

Fresh, raw, almonds were undoubtedly what The NecessiTeas had in mind when creating this tea.  From the visual interest of the sliced almonds mixed with the extra black Ceylon tea, to the soothing smell, this simple blend prepared me for something I would soon consider a classic.

The color of the liquor was surprisingly light and cloudy.  It looked like a medium-roast oolong or a Darjeeling, not the clear, reddish- black hue I usually see when I brew Ceylon.  The flavor was sweet, without having a strong, alcohol-based flavor.  The addition of coconut was a surprising, grounding element.  I tasted it, but rather pointed to the almond flavor, instead of competing with it.  The only downer for me was the practically utter absence of black tea flavor.  To be a true favorite of mine, a tea needs to taste like tea,(unless of course it's an herbal tisane,) and have at least a touch of astringency.  This was so well-balanced, it verged on dull.

If you are looking for something that really tastes like almonds, I highly recommend it.  If you are hankering for a complex cup of almond tea, I suspect you could do better. Still, because this tastes as advertised, I think it deserves high  marks.  I rate it an 8.
