happyearthturzclonalIt is finally above freezing and that is an occasion to celebrate with a good darjeeling. I have a new one to sample from Happy Earth Tea. This vendor has a nice variety of darjeelings including some from estates that are new to me such as this one. They have a bright website with lots of pictures of their teas. It is fairly easy to use though they do hide the search bar at the bottom of the screen.

My sample consisted of large twisted leaves that are a dark cocoa brown with some that are light golden in color. The dry aroma is faint with a slightly fruity aroma. I set it up to brew using 212 degree water and a steep time of 2 minutes. The resulting liquor is medium copper brown in coloring.

There are teas that will put a huge smile on my face anytime that I take a sip. This darjeeling from the Turzum Estate happens to be one of those. It has a wonderful malty, grapey aroma that follows throu gh on the taste with a bang. Rather light on the astringency for a darjeeling, it has a sweet, fruity top notes that linger into the aftertaste. Combine that with an earthy base with hints of malt and smoke, and this tea is a real winner. This is definitely a tea that I plan on picking up and an estate that I will be following.
