ChasongI believe this second flush Darjeeling tea is from a garden I've never sampled before. The leaves are mid-sized, choppy, and brown-black with flecks of silver. They smell peppery and malty. I steep a teaspoon at 195° for three minutes and get a cup with a crisp, clear amber liquor that smells brilliantly of honey.

Sadly, the honey sweet scent doesn't translate to the taste. The flavour is peppery, malty, and mildly fruity with a strong, not unpleasant, bitterness. I find I don't lament the lack of honey flavour because the scent carries strongly throughout the whole time I'm drinking the cup. The second steep lacks much character, bordering on bland, but it's still worth it.

It's a heavier Darjeeling, one of the reasons I generally prefer first flush to second. Yet, especially considering the bitterness, it's a surprisingly drinkable cup. The scent is by far my favourite part, but every aspect makes this interesting and delicious.

So with such a satisfying cup, you may wonder why I didn't give the tea a higher score. It's my first tea from this company, but they already have a few strikes against them. First off, this tea isn't anywhere that I can find it on the website, always a downside since I don't know what it costs or any other information about it. Other than that, though, the website is really hard to navigate and not very attractive. In short, it's not the kind of place that makes me want to order from them, which is a shame because this is a tea worth ordering.
