I'm Christine, a 21-year-old Computer Science major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Some other interests, besides tea, include music, photography, programming, biking, knitting (on occasion), video games, reading, and good television shows. There's nothing gets me through a late-night programming session like a good cuppa tea!
I started drinking tea in high school after being introduced to green tea in Japanese class. However, the supermarket tea bags never really satisfied me, and once I graduated high school I pretty much stopped drinking tea altogether. Until my sophomore year of college, that is, when a few friends and I took a trip to the Mall of America and we wandered into Teavana. I walked out of there empty handed, but with a tiny little spark of curiosity which led me to investigate tea a little bit deeper than before. It wasn't long before I procured a kettle, a teapot, some filter bags, and some loose leaf tea, and from then on, I've been hooked.
My tastes are varied, though I always enjoy a properly brewed plain green tea (sencha being my favorite). Earl Grey (of the green tea variety, particularly) is a favorite (much to my roommate's dismay), and anything spicy is good, especially in the fall/winter. I love fruity herbal/rooibos teas, though I usually have to be in the mood. I almost always take sugar (I'll admit to having an almost insatiable sweet tooth), except in more spice-oriented blends (stronger teas I'll take milk sometimes) or 'plain' green and white teas. For the most part I've stuck to flavored varieties of green and white teas, though I'm starting to dip my toes into world of unflavored. I'm always looking to try something new, and with the opening of a tea shop a few blocks from my apartment (carrying mostly Rishi and TeaGschwendner), that's been easier than ever, and I absolutely love it!
