Teaviews Profile: Sophie
I'm a teacher, artist and art therapist living in Montreal, Canada. I've been drinking tea since I was very little. It was part of our Sunday dinner ritual to finish off with a cup of Red Rose tea. As a result I grew up thinking that tea drinking was not only a very social occasion, but also a very sophisticated, civilised thing to do. Happily, I've expanded my repertoire of tea tasting experiences since then.
I lived in Korea for a year and a half, which opened up an entirely new world of teas to me. Since then I like to experiment with new teas whenever I travel. I have a preference for flavoured black teas but I also enjoy white and oolong teas. Being sensitive to caffeine has led me to try a great variety of tisanes as well. I also like to experiment with locally made teas and tisanes to encourage our regional tea artisans. I generally find green teas a bit too grassy tasting for my palate. I tend to be more a fan of fruity or spicy, full-bodied teas. I like the tea to stand on it's own. It's very rare that I will add milk or sweeteners to it.
I've been on a quest for the perfect Earl Grey for many years. I've found many great teas along the way but none that I can truly say is the epitome of Earl Grey just yet. It's a good excuse to keep trying new teas anyway.
Although I love drinking tea for it's own sake, I also enjoy discussing teas with other tea afficionados. There is something very satisfying in being able to pinpoint the different flavours to describe the often complex taste of a good tea. Other interests of mine are yoga, song writing, knitting and canning.
