Teaviews Profile: Nina
I'm Nina. I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, but I am currently living in Connecticut. I am a undergraduate at Yale University majoring in behavioral neuroscience. I live for food. I am a vegetarian (but I do eat fish...). I enjoy learning about and trying all sorts of foods. Of course, on the top of my culinary interests comes tea! Other interests include reading and writing, running, video games, martial arts, anime, photography, music (mostly everything except hip-hop and rap, with a soft spot for indie and rock), musicals, and thought provoking quirky movies (like Twelve Monkeys
and Mystery Men).
I have always enjoyed drinking tea. It is magical to watch as your water absorbs the color and life from the tea leaves. When I came to the United States, I had the most wonderful luck of meeting people who introduced me to loose leaf tea. It only took one cup, and I was hooked. I loved it. As I said before, it is a magical experience. I will never forget the first loose leaf tea I had. It was a generic jasmine tea that one of my suite-mates had brought back from China. I loved it. I began to look around for anything tea related. In a sense, I began to hoard tea! I love trying everything. My first “tea love†was oolongs. Their delicate yet majestic taste had me hooked. I like to try everything. Many of my friends are continuously bombarded with my rants about the
newest tea that I have acquired. I always have a wide range of teas available for people who happen to come to my house in hopes that I will inspire a love for tea in them. My closest friends and boyfriend share my passion for tea. My boyfriend and I have very different tastes when it comes to teas, but we agree that there are few things better than a fresh brew of your favorite tea! One tea that we share a passion for is Japanese Sencha.
I have a soft spot for flavored green teas and oolongs, though I also liked flavored black teas. My favorite blends include notes of vanilla, cinnamon, rose, and/or chocolate. I enjoy all teas. The only tea that I have not liked so far is genmai-cha (green tea with rice). I am always open to trying something new!
