Teaviews Profile: Numi

I'm in my late 30's, from Northern California and living in Utah. My perfect life would alternate between lying in a sunny spot with a warm drink and a bowl of semi-melted ice cream while reading and learning languages, or in airports between heart-stopping views.

I remember getting into oolong-shot contests with my brother when I was around 12. After drinking a few pots each, it was lucky we were at an age where frequent bathroom breaks happened anyway.

I've been raised mainly with oolongs and green teas, and never tried black until I was nearly in college. Around the same time I went through a brief coffee phase that escalated to numerous triple-mochas daily until stomach pains in the middle of a finals week turned me off permanently. I tend to try intriguing teas numerous times until I can make up my mind about them. The first time I tried a Lapsang Souchong, I could swear someone had washed their socks in my cup. After a few tries and many months later, I can now say I appreciate the smoky heaviness of it; it's like the brandy of teas for me. If the world came crashing down, I'd request a cup of this. Besides smoky black teas I tend to prefer greens and herbals. I'm just starting to explore rooibos and white teas as well. I am currently sipping Harney & Sons Gyokuro and Lapsang Souchong, Tea Table's Strawberry Cream and Belgian Chocolate Rooibos, and would love to find a Korean corn tea and a great jasmine.
