Chai Tea

Strictly speaking, “chai” is simply the word for tea across several cultures in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe. What is referred to as “chai” generally in the western world is more accurately called “masala chai,” or spiced tea. There is no fixed recipe for masala chai, but usually the tea base is a black tea, like Assam, with a mixture of spices that can include cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, peppercorn, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla or saffron. Milk and sugar is almost always added to help bring out the flavor of the spices.

Stash Double Spice Chai Tea (Bagged)

Teaviews Member: Lea Lea's review:
"I found it very overpowering... the spices are so heavy they seem bitter. If you like your chai strong and intensely spicy, this tea will be right up your alley. I, however, will not be revisiting this tea."

"A strong, but not overpowering, blend of spices results in what may just possibly be the perfect Chai tea. Dash some sugar and milk in there, and you've got a sure cure for the winter chills."
