Cinnamon comes from the bark of an evergreen tree called Cinnamomum verum, which is native to Sri Lanka and South India. It has been used for centuries as a treatment for digestive problems, toothaches and halitosis, and has even been used - successfully - as an insect repelant. Studies have shown cinnamon to be high in antioxidants and has antimicrobial properties.
