English Breakfast teas are generally full-bodied, robust and rich, designed to go well with milk and sugar. Black teas included in the blend can include Assam, Ceylon, Kenyan and Keemun teas. Tradition holds that the blend was first sold in Edinburgh simply as “Breakfast Tea” in the 19th century, and that Queen Victoria helped to popularize it (thanks in large part to her love of all things Scottish). When it was brought down to London, merchants altered the name to “English Breakfast” and it has stuck ever since.
