Fennel is native to the Mediterranean region and southwestern Asia, from Morocco and Portugal east to India, and north to southern France and Bulgaria. It is a highly aromatic perennial herb, widely cultivated for culinary and medicinal use. It has traditionally been used to relieve bloating and gas problems, as well as asthma and bronchitis. Some research also suggests it can be helpful for patients recovering from chemotherapy.
