"This is a fantastic twist on a classic blend, and something that can be appreciated by hojicha lovers and non-lovers alike. The overall flavor is clean and refreshing, starting out with powerful minty notes but also offering a muted toasted flavor. "

"A Peppermint Hojicha, who'd have thought those two flavors would go together so well, and result in something so chocolate-esque?"

"Taste wise, I keep feeling like this is surely a more minty tea than a green. But then I take another sip and am again surprised by the fine balance between the two flavors. "

"The peppermint does dominate the blend, but the Hojicha adds nice interest to the cup. It gives it a little depth and darkness."

" The fresh roasted flavours of the hojicha enriched with the vanilla's suave are full and rich to yield the hearty, straightforward taste the tawny colour and sweet chocolatey aroma suggest."

"With fair amount of creaminess to its body, a good dose of the caramel flavour typical of hojichas and delicious mocha notes to boot, this is a great candidate for a desert tea."

"I found the union of the Hojicha and the vanilla to be a blessed one. Again, the taste in the cup is of something roasted and something sweet and this is kind of the best of both worlds."

" It is then scented and flavored with what smelled to me like Tahitian vanilla to produce a sweet, buttery, vanilla-and-caramel aroma that reminded me strongly of really good caramel corn. "

"The roast imparted a great coffee like feel to it, but without the, in my opinion, offensive bitterness that usually follows. "

"I enjoyed this tea for its color and aroma, before and after the brewing process. The taste of the tea was a bit on the strong side for my tastes. But for an interesting, hearty brew, I'd give it a try."

"This is definitely the strongest tea I’ve ever tried but it wasn’t the awful mess I expected from the scent. In fact, it had a very hearty green tea flavor, with no bitter overtones whatsoever."

"This tea also has a dominant nutty-woodsy flavor, that had some hard-to-pinpoint familiarity. I later realized that the nutty-woodsy flavor was very similar to the wheat/grain flavors found in some of the old-fashioned whole-grain hot cereals."

"The surprise was how sweet and mild the actual flavor of the tea is. I could certainly taste the flavoring of the roasting process, a smoky sweetness that produces a nutty flavor. But I also tasted the woodiness – similar to the way that the oak flavors a fine aged whiskey."

"This is definitely a good quality, reasonably priced hojicha. It is flavourful enough to be paired with baked goods or steamed veggies. However, it lacks some of the sweet, mocha-like notes that I personally prefer from this type of tea. "

Culinary Teas Hojicha Gold

6.5/10  —  2 reviews
Teaviews Member: Lynn Lynn's review:
"The flavor lingered well between sips and in the wake of the initial sweetness strong notes of toast, cinnamon, and honey emerged and lingered in the long finish. It's an incredible contrast to sencha or bancha. There was no bitterness, or vegetal, grassy flavors at all. But it was also just a little on the bland side, too, with no astringency, no edge."
