In 2000, Zhena Muzyka faced the most difficult challenge of her life when her son, Sage, was born with a severe birth defect. Barely making ends meet, and with no health insurance to cover Sage’s mounting health costs, Zhena was determined to earn an income for her son and herself. With inspiration from the trials of her gypsy ancestors and $3,000, which she borrowed from her father, Zhena began creating and selling custom hand-blended teas. Selling her creations to neighbors from a catering cart, Zhena soon became known as the “mistress of tea.”
While researching various tea gardens, Zhena met a veteran Sri Lankan tea master who had pioneered organic agriculture in the tea fields of his native home.
Zhena was taken under the wing by this Sri Lankan tea master and soon became a master tea blender. As an Aromatherapist, Zhena had already studied the effects of essential oils on women’s health. She learned how to use essential oils to increase physical vitality, soothe the mind and balance emotions. Together, these skills created what is now, Zhena’s Gypsy Tea.
