specialteas-vienna-winter-g.jpgSpecialTeas describes this blend thusly:

"Our No.865 Vienna Winter Green is blended to be the perfect accompaniment to an afternoon relaxing to your favorite composer. With green tea, almonds, white chocolate bits, Roman chamomile, macadamia and pistachio nuts, cocoa kernels and cracknel bits this tea is comforting and engaging. The aroma of nuts and soft chocolate will intrigue you. It has a warm, nutty, chocolate taste underscored with the soft flavor of a smooth green tea. Make some time to enjoy this delightful flavor medley."

This is perhaps the first tea I've tried where it looked like there were more ancillary ingredients in the blend than there was actual tea.  Just looking into the bag you'll see big huge chunks of pistachio and macadamia nuts, bits of cracknel and almonds.  The aroma from the bag is rich and heavy, almost rum-like.

The flavors stay nicely blended in the final brew, which needs just a tad of sugar to bring out the chocolatey notes.  The sweet earthiness of the macadamias and white chocolate play nicely with the slightly bitter tones of the pistachios and the warmth of the almonds and chamomile.

I honestly have to say, my first impression of this tea - just reading the ingredients list - was that it was just too much.  No way would all these different tastes come together in a balanced, tasty beverage.  But come together they did.  The blend as a whole is delicious, and yet if you sit back and just let the flavors dance on your tongue for a bit, its quite easy to pick out each and every individual ingredient.

Really a brilliant blend, one of the biggest tea surprises I've had in a while.  A perfect desert or late-night tea when you've a hankering for something slightly sweet.  Thumbs way up on this one.
