Thumbs up!"This tea is lushly aromatic, but the flavoring in the final blend is extremely subtle. Those looking for a burst of tropical flavor may be disappointed, though personally I very much enjoyed it."

serendipitea-fiji.jpgSerendipiTEA lists only three ingredients in this tea: pineapple, papaya and green tea. But just a cursory glance at the blend shows that there's at least one other ingredient, a blue flower-type of thing - almost certainly blue mallow. The aroma from the bag is thick and, literally, saliva-inducing (for me at least). You really get the bold scent of pineapple and a more subtle, exotic hint of papaya.

The first thing I should mention was that these tea leaves *really* expand in the water. I included what I originally thoughy was a too-modest amount of leaves in my teapot, and after the first minute of steeping I was almost afraid I'd included too much. So remember that with this blend, a little goes a long way.

I'll admit to a bit of disappointment with the final brew, at least initially. The lush and delicious pineapple/papaya flavor combination was much more muted than I'd expected (and hoped for). The primary flavor is the slightly vegetal but quite nice-tasting green tea base. You get the barest hint of the pineapple and papaya in the aftertaste, which lingers nicely, but its not quite the "punch" of exotic flavors I was expecting.

That said, after the initial disappointment, I very much enjoyed this brew... and those who really are looking for only the barest hint of flavor added to a top-quality green tea would likely enjoy this blend as well. Subtle is the word to keep in mind with this blend. Hard-core flavor-junkies will probably be a bit disappointed with the final result, though, especially after inhaling the thick and delicious aroma straight from the bag.
